Appartenant à la même famille depuis sa construction en 1341, ce château fortifié a
été agrandi aux XVIe et XVIIIe siècles pour devenir aujourd'hui un Monument Historique très accueillant,
meublé et décoré avec raffinement.
Les pierres d'Urtubie racontent six siècles de l'histoire du Pays Basque.
Le roi Louis XI y séjourna en 1463 et Louis XIV érigea le domaine en vicomté en 1654. Au XIXe siècle, Soult puis Wellington y passèrent lors des guerres napoléoniennes.
The Chateau d'Urtubie, a fortified castle, has been in the same family since it was built in 1341. It was extended in the 16th and 19th centuries and is today a very attractive, elegantly furnished and decorated Historic Monument.
The Urtubie stones bear witness to six centuries of Basque country history. Louis XI stayed here in 1463 and Louis XIV raised the estate to viscount status in 1654. In the 19th century, Soult followed by Wellington were billeted here during the Napoleonic Wars.
